When journalism is reduced to a career of convenience, even the noblest traditions become tools for deception. The recently organized Media for Unity Awards by the Urdu Weekly Nai Dunya Foundation is a startling example of how personal ambition, betrayal, and opportunism can hijack a language, a community, and a legacy—all under the banner of “unity.”

At the center of this deeply controversial episode is a man who has made a career out of shifting loyalties—from receiving money from terrorist Jagjit Singh Chauhan in London, to peddling narratives favorable to the RSS-BJP ecosystem. Arrested under TADA during the Rajiv Gandhi government for promoting Khalistani propaganda, he used his links with M.J. Akbar to evade prolonged imprisonment.

Today, this man organizes high-profile “Media for Unity” award ceremonies, conducted not in Urdu, but in English. The irony is unforgivable—an event claiming to honor Urdu journalism, yet not a single meaningful effort to uphold or promote the Urdu language.

Usurping a Legacy: Urdu Day or Self-Day?

In an audacious act of appropriation, this man has unilaterally declared the death anniversary of his father, Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, as “Urdu Day.” While this may appear to be a tribute, it is in fact a rebranding exercise to center his own image at the expense of a legacy that does not belong to him.

Let the record be clear:

Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, the Printer, Publisher, Editor, and Proprietor of Urdu Weekly Nai Dunya, was imprisoned twice during the Emergency (1975–77) for his bold and uncompromising journalistic stance.

His elder son, Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi, was the Printer, Publisher, and Editor of Urdu Daily Nai Dunya from 1951 to 1963, and was jailed multiple times during that period alongside his father for resisting authoritarian and communal pressures.

These were men of principles, who paid the price for their integrity. Their sacrifices for Urdu journalism and Muslim rights were not theatrical gestures—they were lived realities of resistance. But the current torchbearer of Nai Dunya exploits these family credentials not to further the cause of Urdu, but to gain political and personal mileage.

In a particularly brazen lie, the man has now begun claiming that he personally interviewed Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This is a gross distortion of fact. It was his elder brother, Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi, who was honored with that distinction, receiving one of the only Urdu interviews granted by Mrs. Gandhi during her lifetime, after B.K. Karanjia of Blitz. To fabricate such a historical event for personal gain reflects the depth of his delusion.

But the madness doesn’t stop there. He now claims Indira Gandhi jailed him during the Emergency, an absolute falsehood. The truth remains that it was his father, Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, who was jailed twice during the Emergency. This man, in comparison, was not even a significant figure in journalism at the time. His claims are a direct insult to the real sacrifices made by his father and brother.

Such fabrications and lies expose him as perhaps the biggest habitual liar in Indian media today—even surpassing Narendra Modi’s fantastical claims about university degrees.

English for Urdu? The Hypocrisy of the Awards

The farce of these awards becomes more visible in their execution. Held entirely in English, the event not only betrays its purpose but mocks it. Among the chief coordinators is Rakhshanda Jalil, a prominent English-language academic and writer, who despite being the granddaughter of Ale Ahmad Suroor and an advocate of Urdu literature, presides over an Urdu event in English. One must ask: Is this an award ceremony or a staged performance to please elite circles?

Private Scandals, Public Deception

Behind the facade of public service lies a litany of private scandals. After a failed relationship with a Bengali Hindu woman, this man used his professional influence to manipulate a married Muslim employee—half his age—into an illicit affair. When she became pregnant, she allegedly blackmailed him into marriage, divorcing her husband Zafar through his influence and resources. The entire episode was hushed up behind his supposed moral high ground.

His claim of “sacrificing” a Delhi University position for journalism is another myth. In reality, he left for the lucrative business of yellow journalism—turning communal conflict into personal gain.

Babri Masjid Betrayal and RSS Alignment

Perhaps the most damning chapter in his political journey is his dual role during the Babri Masjid demolition. As Chief Editor of Urdu Weekly Nai Dunya and Head of the AICC Minority Cell, he did not resign in protest. Instead, he was rewarded with the chairmanship of the first National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) under the Narasimha Rao regime.

Over the years, he has welcomed funds from virtually every source—Khalistani separatists, Palestinian agents, CIA-backed groups, Rajiv Gandhi, and even Narendra Modi. His infamous two-part interview with Modi—estimated at ₹100 crore in soft PR value—whitewashed the Gujarat CM’s image and earned him a seat at the RSS-led Muslim dialogue table alongside Najeeb Jung and S.Y. Quraishi.

Designing Drunken Narratives

From 1984 to 1999, the layout of Urdu Weekly Nai Dunya was handled by a communist habitual drinker who worked alone for the last three days of each week during night. Many of the inflammatory headers that stoked Muslim sentiments and public agitations were designed while intoxicated. The irony? These headlines, instead of empowering Muslims, often served the purpose of uniting Hindus under the Hindutva agenda by portraying Muslims as permanently aggrieved.

But perhaps the most cunning and calculated aspect of his fraud lies not just in rewriting his family history or fabricating interviews, but in exploiting respected voices of Urdu scholarship and secular journalism to lend legitimacy to his farce.

The Compromised Jury: Credibility in Captivity

The so-called “Media for Unity Awards” orchestrated under the banner of the Urdu Weekly Nai Dunya Foundation employs a strategy that is as old as propaganda itself: surround the lie with borrowed truths.

By assembling a jury comprising genuine intellectuals, academics, and journalists, this man creates an illusion of credibility. Many of these jurists are unknowingly being used as props—names to dress up an otherwise illegitimate scheme. They are never fully informed of the man’s past dealings, political betrayals, or personal scandals. Instead, they are presented with a sanitized version of events, cloaked in the language of “unity,” “secularism,” and “Urdu revival.”

It is important to question: Would any self-respecting Urdu scholar have participated if they knew the man had once promoted terrorist propaganda in London funded by Jagjit Singh Chauhan? Or that his alignment with Hindutva forces led to his backdoor re-entry into politics via the Samajwadi Party?

The English Takeover of Urdu

A particularly disturbing irony is how these awards are conducted entirely in English, even while being promoted as events celebrating Urdu language and journalism. Key jury members, such as Rakhshanda Jalil—despite her lineage as the granddaughter of Ale Ahmad Suroor—conduct the event in a manner that sidelines Urdu altogether.

What does it say about an Urdu Award Ceremony that not only avoids Urdu as its medium but elevates those who have consciously distanced themselves from the language?

The strategy here is clear: use English to capture visibility, and use Urdu as a sentimental tool—an instrument for symbolic legitimacy, not cultural preservation. This new English-Urdu elite, fueled by Delhi’s academic circuits and socialite networks, are slowly hijacking the space that once belonged to principled Urdu journalism.

Awardees or Accomplices?

The recipients of the “Media for Unity Awards” often include mid-level journalists, media freelancers, and television panelists who may or may not be aware of the award’s political baggage. But by accepting the award, they unwittingly become part of a legitimizing mechanism.

These awards are not recognitions of journalistic excellence. They are recruitment drives—tools to build an informal alliance of media faces who will not question the man’s past, or worse, defend it. This award serves the same purpose as fake honorary doctorates: they are self-serving and transactional.

Samajwadi Party and the Shadow of the RSS

The man’s current alignment with the Samajwadi Party is not merely political; it is strategic. After circling through all anti-Muslim parties—from the Congress to the BJP—he has returned to his so-called “roots” in SP. But this is not out of ideology. It is an RSS-backed attempt to damage Congress support among Muslims, by projecting Akhilesh Yadav as the acceptable face of secularism, while silently pushing Hindutva’s long-term objectives.

It is worth recalling that this same man helped broker secret dialogues between the RSS and Muslim figures such as Najeeb Jung and S.Y. Quraishi. It is not surprising that RSS ideologue K.R. Malkani once recommended him for Rajya Sabha through Amar Singh—a political elevation he secured not for journalism, but for compliance.

Business Channels and Political Patronage

During his term as a Member of Parliament, the man facilitated his son’s employment with the Reliance Group, establishing long-term business channels with the Ambani empire. He continues to benefit from this corporate connection, which now functions as a safety net for his dwindling journalistic credibility.

Meanwhile, properties acquired during his Rajya Sabha tenure are now being rented out, reportedly earning him over two lakh rupees monthly. Yet this income is insufficient to sustain two separate households in Delhi—one for each wife—as well as financial support for an unmarried elder sister, who has been provided with accommodation and a monthly allowance of Rs 30,000.

While he claims to serve the cause of Urdu, most of his public events, including the Unity Awards, are lavishly funded by Modi government’s National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL)—a shocking contradiction given his past statements. This strategic funding allows him to cloak his personal ambition in cultural garb, while tapping into government coffers.

The London Intrigue

A lingering mystery still hangs over his presence in London during the same period Rahul Gandhi was touring the UK. While nothing has been formally disclosed, one cannot ignore the implications of this timing. The man has a long history of switching allegiances and forming shadow alliances. Could this have been yet another opportunistic handshake in a foreign capital?

Conclusion: Unmasking the Cultural Appropriation

This new theater of cultural appropriation masquerades as inclusivity, but in reality, it is an RSS-guided project to disarm Urdu journalism, and with it, the Muslim political voice. The man’s personal journey—from yellow journalism to spiritual gatekeeping of Urdu—is a testament to the decay of integrity in Indian media.

The NCPUL Nexus: Urdu Promotion or Political Laundering?

Most of the high-profile functions organized under the banner of the Media for Unity Awards are held using public funds channelled through the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), a government body under the Modi regime. This agency, ironically meant to safeguard and develop Urdu, has become a financier for events that are conducted almost entirely in English.

Under the garb of Urdu promotion, these awards serve as soft diplomacy exercises for the Hindutva state—meant to co-opt Urdu-speaking Muslims and intellectuals into the RSS-BJP narrative by offering symbolic representation while weakening real dissent.

What better way to do this than to elevate a tainted individual who has been through every political camp—RSS, Congress, SP—and has shown himself willing to trade credibility for position?

The Lavish Lifestyle Behind the Curtain

The individual in question sustains not one, but two separate households in New Delhi. One for his Muslim second wife, a woman he allegedly impregnated while she was a married employee in his office, and the other for his first Hindu wife, with whom he had a son—now employed in an Ambani company thanks to his father’s influence as an MP.

How is this lifestyle sustained? With properties acquired during his tenure in the Rajya Sabha, which now reportedly earn him over ₹2 lakh per month in rent. One house has also been given to his unmarried elder sister, along with a monthly stipend of ₹30,000. Despite this, his income remains disproportionate to his lifestyle.

This is where event funding, media grants, and ‘honorariums’ from various political outfits and embassies come into play. From Babri Masjid to Palestine, from CIA-sponsored interviews to PR packages paid for by Modi and Rajiv Gandhi alike, the man has capitalized on every global and national Muslim issue for personal gain.

Foreign Money, Foreign Intentions?

Questions have also arisen about foreign trips made under the guise of journalism or cultural diplomacy. Most notably, his presence in London last year during Rahul Gandhi’s visit was never accounted for officially. Was he representing a political lobby? Was it a personal PR deal for Congress revival? Or was it part of his habitual fence-sitting between Hindutva and pseudo-secular political factions?

The Business of Propaganda

The Media for Unity platform itself has become a lucrative brand. Every award event draws sponsorships, hotel collaborations, and private backers from media houses, NGOs, and diplomatic missions. While it appears to honor unity and secularism, its real function is more insidious:

Sanitize his past through visibility and association with respected figures

Buy loyalty from young and mid-level media professionals through awards

Present a ‘moderate Muslim’ face for Hindutva audiences

Accumulate cultural capital for future political relevance

Exploiting Legacy for Legitimacy

He continues to exploit the legacy of his father Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui—the respected editor of Urdu Weekly Nai Dunya & founder of Daily Nai Dunya, Huma & Huda Digests, who went to jail twice during the Emergency. He has falsely claimed it was he himself who was jailed, hijacking the real sacrifices made by his family.

He has even appropriated the death anniversary of his father as ‘Urdu Day’, organizing events in his own name and funding them through NCPUL, while completely marginalizing Urdu in actual content, communication, and execution.

Political ROI: Return on Influence

His proximity to power—whether in Congress, RSS, or Samajwadi Party—is maintained not through ideology, but through utility. He gives every political faction what they need:

• For RSS: a Muslim face to divide the community
• For Congress: a soft critic of Modi
• For SP: an Urdu-quoting intellectual with Hindutva links

All this is made possible by maintaining channels with Ambani, living off Delhi properties acquired during his MP term, and funding events through taxpayer money meant for Urdu promotion.

Conclusion: The Real Price of Silence

The Urdu-speaking public must understand: this is not merely a story of personal corruption. It is an ongoing cultural and ideological heist. The exploitation of state funds, foreign trips, business connections, and false legacy is all part of a grand strategy to dilute Muslim resistance and turn Urdu into a ceremonial token.

After exposing the mastermind, his money trails, and misuse of family and institutional legacy, we now examine the facade of legitimacy constructed around the so-called Media for Unity Awards. These awards, held annually under the patronage of the very man we have unmasked, are used to create an illusion of moral and journalistic sanctity.

But beneath the glittering ceremony lies a network of complicity, contradiction, and hypocrisy.

The Awards and the Names They Desecrate

1. Kuldeep Nayyar Award for English Journalism – Suhasini Haider
Kuldeep Nayyar was long considered a guru to Shahid Siddiqui from the 1970s. During the Bofors campaign, Nayyar was known to have solicited money from VP Singh to organize press meets with the Urdu media. His identity was shaped by the Indo-Pak peace discourse, often commodifying the refugee narrative. To use his name for a unity award reeks of irony.

2. Khushwant Singh Award for Literature
While Khushwant Singh was a literary icon, the values he stood for—secular critique and unapologetic honesty—are hardly represented by this ceremony’s motives.

3. Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui Award for Urdu Journalism
This is perhaps the greatest travesty. Shahid Siddiqui deleted his father’s name from Nai Dunya in 1991, only restoring it after succeeding in getting the closure of my own newspaper just before the Babri Masjid demolition, under the Congress regime. He has often mocked his father’s legacy, once saying: “Jungle mein mor nacha, kisne dekha”—a brutal dismissal of the silent, consistent work of Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui.

Today, the same father is conveniently remembered to cash in on the family brand, despite Shahid’s visible rejection of his father’s Islamic values—namaz, roza, beard, and an honest Muslim life. Instead, he boasts online about celebrating Holi and Diwali—a desperate attempt to appease the Hindutva crowd.

4. Prabhash Joshi Award for Hindi Journalism
Joshi, a journalist known for independent thought, would have been deeply opposed to the communal, opportunistic journalism of Shahid Siddiqui’s Nai Dunya.

5. Swami Agnivesh Award for Social Causes
An outrageous inclusion. Swami Agnivesh, despite some liberal leanings later in life, was long affiliated with hardline Hindutva ideology. How does his name feature in a ceremony that claims to promote interfaith unity?

6. Habib Tanveer Award

7. Shyam Benegal Award

8. S.P. Singh Award
All three were icons in their fields, known for opposing communal journalism and divisive narratives. Their names being used by someone whose publication directly contributed to the rise of BJP and Hindutva is nothing short of an insult to their legacy.

9. Prabha Devi Award for Lifetime Achievement
A vague and largely unknown name attached to a lifetime award, further revealing the personalized, non-transparent process.

10. Swami Agnivesh Award.
This year’s award went to India Love Project, a platform awarded for encouraging interfaith relationships—a move praised publicly but awarded by a man who has personally profited off hate, fear, and communal polarization.

The Awardees: United in Silence

The list of recipients further highlights the contradiction:

Arun Shourie: An open opponent of Muslim rights.

Mrinal Pande: Close to Sonia Gandhi, her presence gives the function a secular-seal, despite its rotten core.

Om Thanvi, Siddharth Varadarajan: Left-liberal journalists who keep Muslim anger alive without ever solving real issues.

Suhasini Haider: Daughter of Subramaniam Swamy, another contradiction packaged as balance.

M.K. Raina: Former English lecturer in DU.

Abhinav Sinha & Preeti Chaudhry: Television faces lending their brand to false narratives.

India Love Project: A platform perhaps unaware they were being used to justify a brand of fake inclusivity….? State Hindutva policy to convert muslim men & women from Islam to Haraam. 

These names, though prominent, have either failed to recognize or willfully ignored the man behind the awards. Their acceptance bestows legitimacy on a fraud. Their silence perpetuates it.

Santosh Bhartiya: The Hidden Enabler

A crucial enabler of this deceptive narrative is Santosh Bhartiya, former MP, ex-editor, and RSS-backed socialist in disguise. A long-time collaborator of Shahid Siddiqui, Santosh Bhartiya plays the role of the moneybag handler and disinformation manager—spinning half-truths wrapped in pseudo-intellectualism. He exerts silent influence over Nai Dunya, without even requiring a physical paper to manipulate minds. His role has turned Urdu journalism into a contraceptive tool—used and discarded at the convenience of Hindutva’s democratic manipulation.

While claiming to be a socialist, Santosh Bhartiya mysteriously upgraded his residence from C-75 Chandra Nagar Ghaziabad to a posh 4 floor home in Greater Kailash, a financial leap that defies his public image and known income sources.

His association with Shahid Siddiqui is not just ideological; it’s strategic. He provides both the legitimacy and logistics needed to run a deceptive operation that masquerades as secular, inclusive, and representative of Urdu journalism.

Conclusion: Manufactured Unity, Real Damage

In the name of unity, a carefully curated lie is being sold to the country. Urdu is being packaged by a man who has done more to destroy it than his critics. Awards are being given in the names of people who would have vehemently rejected the ideology and opportunism of the award-giver. The recipients are either unaware, indifferent, or complicit.

This is not just media manipulation. This is historical theft. A theft of values, of legacy, and of language.

A powerful example of this hijack is visible in the grand shows like the ‘Media for Unity Awards’ being conducted entirely in English — ironically, in the name of Urdu. The orchestrator of this perverse carnival, Shahid Siddiqui, exploits every inch of emotional, cultural, and communal capital of Urdu without actually living its spirit or even conducting events in its language.

The man who unilaterally declared his father Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui’s death anniversary as ‘Urdu Day’ does not hesitate to conduct all ceremonies in English. One of his prominent collaborators in this linguistic betrayal is jury member and English-language academic Rakshanda Jalil — granddaughter of Ale Ahmad Suroor, once known in Urdu academic circles. A resident of Nizamuddin East and a product of Miranda College, she too has taken the lead in Englishing the legacy of Urdu.

What was once a defiant linguistic expression against colonialism and communalism is now merely a PR tool — a backdrop for personal glory, award ceremonies, and power brokering. While Urdu is being denied basic survival — in schools, in media, in publishing — these events act as masquerades of progress. The awards are funded by Modi government bodies like the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), creating an irony too sharp to ignore.

Shahid Siddiqui, who never prays or fasts and who openly boasts about playing Holi and Diwali under his father’s permissive watch, conveniently drops the fact that he rejected his father’s namaz, beard, and austere, corruption-free Muslim lifestyle. This disconnection with genuine Islamic values and cultural rootedness is reflected in how he uses the Urdu banner for non-Urdu events — symbolic betrayal at its best.

He claims his father was jailed during Emergency, while the real truth is that only Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui was sent to jail twice during 1975–77. He now falsely claims that he himself was jailed and interviewed Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The truth is that his elder brother Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi, Editor-Printer-Publisher of Urdu Daily Nai Dunya (1951–63), was the only Urdu journalist besides Blitz’s B.K. Karanjia to receive a full Urdu interview from Mrs. Gandhi. Shahid Siddiqui, who deleted his father’s name from the Nai Dunya masthead in 1991, only restored it after helping the Congress Government suppress the true Urdu press Weekly Hamara Qadam before the Babri Masjid demolition.

With awards in names like Kuldeep Nayyar, Khushwant Singh, and even Swami Agnivesh — a hardline Hindutva preacher — Siddiqui is manufacturing legitimacy. Yet many of these names were ideological opponents of the communal line he and his publication espoused. Awarding Arun Shourie — infamous for anti-Muslim rhetoric — or Suhasini Haider, daughter of BJP stalwart Subramanian Swamy, under the guise of ‘Unity’ is not irony; it is betrayal.

The deeper betrayal lies in the corporate connections. His son from his Hindu wife was appointed to a post in the Ambani group during Shahid’s tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP. He also receives a handsome rent of Rs. 2 lakhs a month from prime New Delhi properties acquired while in office — insufficient, of course, for maintaining two wives and a dependent sister who is also paid Rs. 30,000 per month. The shows are funded by taxpayer-backed Urdu promotion bodies — and yet last year, while in London during Rahul Gandhi’s visit, his allegiances were again up for speculation.

Looming behind this carefully spun Urdu façade is his long-time guru and handler Santosh Bhartiya — former MP and ex-editor busy exploiting Fauzia instead of giving time to his beautiful wife — an RSS-backed figure posing as a socialist. It was Bhartiya who helped orchestrate Shahid Siddiqui’s rise through half-truths and disinformation. Today, they control Urdu readers through paperless propaganda — a contraceptive utility for Hindutva politics.

How Santosh Bhartiya jumped from his humble Chandra Nagar home to an affluent GK address remains unexplained — as does Shahid Siddiqui’s paperless clout over Muslims in the media, used only for manipulation, never for emancipation.

What lies ahead is not just a fight to reclaim a language. It is the reclaiming of a political space, a cultural soul, and a historical truth that has been vandalized by the very people claiming to protect it.

Behind the blinding lights of the ‘Media for Unity Awards’ and the slick speeches in English lies a deeply entrenched corporate-communal nexus that fuels the real ambitions of Shahid Siddiqui. Having travelled full circle through almost every political ideology in India — from Muslim League to Congress, BJP, RSS, SP, and back again — Siddiqui’s only consistent loyalty has been to opportunism and personal enrichment.

A major node in this intricate web is the Reliance Group, specifically the Ambani conglomerate. As a Member of Parliament, Shahid Siddiqui ensured that his son from his Hindu wife secured a comfortable job within the Ambani empire. Even as he postures as a marginalized, principled voice in Indian journalism, the reality tells a different tale. He collects Rs. 2 lakh per month in rent from prime real estate properties acquired during his MP tenure — not to sustain one family, but two. His unmarried elder sister has been granted a residence and a monthly allowance of Rs. 30,000. The scale of personal expenditure undercuts his narrative of sacrifice and struggle. Where does this money come from?

The answer lies in the patronage from the BJP-led central government. Events organized under the Urdu banner — though conducted entirely in English — are funded generously by the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), a body now comfortably aligned with the Modi regime’s cultural policy. Thus, while real Urdu journalism gasps for survival, crores are spent enabling a handful of English-speaking elites to eulogize themselves in Urdu’s name.

In 2023, while receiving such state-funded support for his Urdu Unity shows, Shahid Siddiqui was in London — at the same time as Rahul Gandhi’s controversial UK tour. The overlap raises serious questions about his real political allegiances and backdoor negotiations. Despite all his posturing, Siddiqui has remained suspiciously immune to scrutiny by any major party, except when it serves his narrative of victimhood.

The other key figure behind this paperless propaganda empire is RSS-affiliated Santosh Bhartiya — Siddiqui’s long-time political handler. Once a humble socialist operating out of Chandra Nagar, Bhartiya now resides in an upscale Greater Kailash residence — a journey that parallels Shahid Siddiqui’s own suspicious upward trajectory. Together, they control the disinformation channels flowing through what’s left of the Urdu media space.

Their partnership represents the model of a new propaganda mechanism: paperless, responsibility-free, state-funded, and masquerading as cultural outreach. The aim isn’t to uplift Muslims or Urdu — it’s to instrumentalize them. Muslims, in this ecosystem, are disposable, used only as communal fuel for elections or as emotional currency in award shows.

Adding further to this betrayal is the systemic takeover of Urdu journalism by Hindutva-controlled media houses. One of the largest Urdu dailies in India, Inquilab, published from 12 cities, is shockingly run, owned, and controlled by the Dainik Jagran Group — the heart and soul of Hindutva propaganda. Since the early 2000s, most Urdu television channels have been acquired or funded by corporate houses closely aligned with the BJP or Ambani’s media empire, including the once-independent ETV Urdu.

Today, the only surviving truly independent Urdu newspaper run by a Muslim exists in Kashmir. Across the rest of India, major Urdu publications are either partially owned by non-Muslim stakeholders or are financially dependent on political patronage. The result is devastating: in the past 25 years, Urdu newspapers have almost completely ceased to serve the interests of Indian Muslims. Instead, they act as carriers of soft Hindutva, deceiving their readership into silent submission.

The so-called ‘unity’ these awards claim to celebrate is, in truth, a calculated ploy to sanitize the collaboration between communal power and corporate wealth. The legitimacy borrowed from Urdu’s legacy is used to cleanse the stench of betrayal. And in the end, the only unity these awards reflect is the unity between political fraud and media manipulation.

The support to this paperless propaganda model by Hindutva is not a coincidence — it is a calculated psychological operation. It strategically selects a handful of Urdu-speaking “representatives” and saturates them with resources so that they, in turn, silence and control the rest of the Muslim community. These men and women are not journalists; they are handlers in disguise. Their real job is to ensure that resistance never crystallizes, that Muslim pain remains fragmented, and that Hindutva proceeds without audible dissent.

The result? Indian Muslims are rendered voiceless in their own language.

Genuine Urdu newspapers have been replaced by WhatsApp forwards.

Independent journalists are jobless, while collaborators are awardees.

Community concerns are filtered through the lens of state-sponsored ‘unity’.

It is now nearly impossible to break this nexus. This cartel of privilege, propaganda, and political immunity has plugged every channel through which real Urdu journalism once spoke. Events once meant to elevate community voices now serve as platforms to reward the collaborators of their suppression.

The propaganda machine does not need brute force anymore. It has found a quieter, more lethal route: hijacking culture and memory. And as long as Urdu remains in the hands of those who profit from its death, its survival will be a lie.

It is a documented fact that two Urdu dailies—Himmat and Taqat—were launched from Delhi under the editorship and tireless efforts of Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi. But in a systematic campaign, Shahid Siddiqui posthumously reassigned these ventures to his father Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, not out of respect but to build a mythos that benefitted his political ambitions. The files and records of these dailies, preserved by the family of Ahmad Mustafa Rahi, speak a different truth.

This deceit began much earlier. During the post-Emergency political rebuilding, it was Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi who played a central role in returning Muslim support to the Congress Party at the request of Sanjay Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Swami Dhirendra Brahmachari. In a masterstroke of media strategy, HUMA (then under Rahi’s editorship) interviewed Mrs. Indira Gandhi—a rare honour extended to Urdu journalism after B.K. Karanjia of Blitz. This interview helped bridge the Congress-Muslim divide at a crucial time in India’s political history.

The photograph archive of a major family wedding in February 1980, attended by Sanjay Gandhi, Swami Dhirendra Brahmachari and the full Congress Cabinet, is now being misused by Shahid Siddiqui. In a book of republished articles, he falsely captions images to place himself and his father as the orchestrators of that political re-alignment, when in fact it was Ahmad Mustafa Rahi’s political acumen and moral stature that brought the Congress back into Muslim hearts.

One such lie includes a photograph of Congress leader Aziz Imam Ex MP mis captioned as Anand Mohan Gulzar Zutshi, bowing before Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui. Another photograph showing Syed Mir Qasim greeting Maulana is falsely claimed to be at the Maulana’s office, when it was at the aforementioned wedding. Yet another image of P. Shiv Shankar at the event is deceitfully presented with the claim that Maulana was the political brain behind him and Indira Gandhi.

The motivation? Legacy laundering. Shahid Siddiqui seeks unchallenged space by annihilating any claims to the family’s journalistic legacy—especially from his practicing Muslim brother whose ideology and integrity clashed with Siddiqui’s opportunistic persona.

He didn’t stop there. Three of Ahmad Mustafa Rahi’s sons were manipulated into marrying non-Muslims, their faith eroded, their future as flag bearer of Islamic values compromised. Girls of the family were pushed into the same culture, while Shahid Siddiqui stood as the architect of a neo-atheist, liquor-hosting lifestyle, where foreign diplomats including U.S. and Russian ambassadors were entertained with grandeur while the Muslim cause lay in ashes.

To maintain his double life, Shahid Siddiqui even married a Muslim employee—a calculated act to retain Islamic optics. Their two sons were educated abroad, one in law and the other in journalism, both pursuing careers distanced from Islamic practice. Who funds this? Who bears the crore-plus yearly expenses for such a lavish educational setup abroad? Certainly not the declared sources of income.

Two further incidents confirm the character of this man. After the death of his father, Shahid Siddiqui forced a widow landlady in Nizamuddin East to sell House No. D-10 to him, using money pooled deceitfully from three sisters and his own contribution. He had earlier ensured that the proceeds from a plot in Preet Vihar—originally bought with the incomes of the two elder brothers—were shared equally among eight siblings. From that arrangement, he secured Rs. 24 lakhs, which he used to buy and reconstruct D-10 into a multi-storey building with basement + 5 floors and resold it floor-wise, making crores.

Additionally, in 1993, while he was Chief of the AICC Minority Cell, Shahid Siddiqui misappropriated Rs. 70 lakhs from Babu Khan Salman Varsi, a Congressman, under the pretext of setting up a printing press—a project that never materialized and the money was never returned.

The tragedy is profound: a man who rejected namaz, roza, beard, and a halal life, now uses his father’s name and a stolen legacy to dominate the narrative space of Indian Muslims.

In a shocking betrayal, Siddiqui didn’t just remain quiet—he shifted blame onto the Palestinians for the October 7, 2023, Hamas uprising, absurdly tweeting that the operation was done at the behest of Israel. This was not only a gross distortion of facts but a slap in the face to global Muslim solidarity.

Such statements are not random. They reveal the agenda of a man who has long betrayed not only his family’s legacy but the cause of Muslims in India. In 1980, when a delegation of Muslim and non-Muslim MPs failed to get an appointment with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to hand over a cheque to the Palestinian Ambassador, it was not Siddiqui who arranged it—it was his elder brother Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi who used his stature to secure that appointment. I, a young boy then, witnessed the event personally at the PM House. A cheque of Rs. 1 lakh was handed over to the Palestinian Ambassador on behalf of the Nai Dunya Relief Fund. That cheque, shockingly, bounced.

Where did the money go?

One of the few who knows is Mohammad Afzal, ex-Rajya Sabha MP and long-time collaborator of Siddiqui in the art of political survival through deceit. Arif M Khan’s creation M.Afzal a former Urdu editor publisher of a weekly—who began as a humble Karim’s Hotel waiter—climbed his way to a VIP residence in New Friends Colony, courtesy of Congress support. He’s known for switching loyalties: joining V.P. Singh, seeking Atal Ji’s blessings in 1999 with a group of journalists, and now seeking a Congress revival with Salman Khurshid. His public life is riddled with mysteries—including how he maintains a lavish lifestyle despite no visible income. Present at the IIC awards ceremony his head must be spinning as no awardee was a Muslim & the entire function hosted in English instead of Urdu.

Let us not forget how Siddiqui manipulated his way into power. After the death of his father, Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui, he forced the widow landlady of D-10 Nizamuddin East—a house initially rented in the 1970s for Rs. 500 per month—to sell the property to him in the 1990s. The house, which had served as the family’s residence for decades, became his goldmine. He manipulated his siblings and used propaganda to claim rights over a Preet Vihar plot that had been bought from the incomes of elder brothers. After coercing the sale, each sibling was given Rs. 6 lakh, and the money from three sisters along with his own (~Rs. 24 lakh) was pooled to acquire the Nizamuddin property.

Soon, D-10 was demolished, rebuilt into a six-storey structure with basement, and sold floor-wise, earning Siddiqui crores. At the same time, when he was heading the All India Congress Committee’s Minority Cell in 1993, he reportedly siphoned Rs. 70 lakh from Babu Khan Salman Varsi, supposedly to set up a printing press. The press never materialized. The money was never returned.

Had he spared the launch of fortnightly Khushnuma after the return of Congress in 1980 from his dirty motives by provoking ( & promising him that he will support in the marriages of 5 of his daughters ) his brother Khalid Siddiqui not to join the venture by Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui Rahi, Urdu legacy would have escaped the death at the hands of an atheist Hindutva mole in the empire of Urdu family.

The Propaganda Machinery Masquerading as Press

From staging interviews with personalities like Mrs. Indira Gandhi (that were actually conducted by his brother Rahi) to claiming false imprisonments during Emergency, Siddiqui built a carefully choreographed PR image. The reality? His father Maulana Abdul Waheed Siddiqui was jailed twice during the Emergency, not him. Shahid was nowhere near any resistance—he was instead aligning with establishment forces, ensuring his future would be lubricated with access, awards, and dirty money.

ऐसा करने का इससे बेहतर तरीका क्या हो सकता है कि एक दागी व्यक्ति को ऊपर उठाया जाए जो हर राजनीतिक खेमे-आरएसएस, कांग्रेस, एसपी- से गुज़रा है और जिसने पद के लिए अपनी साख का सौदा करने को तैयार दिखाया है?

पर्दे के पीछे की आलीशान जीवनशैली

संदर्भित व्यक्ति नई दिल्ली में एक नहीं, बल्कि दो अलग-अलग घरों का खर्च चलाता है। एक अपनी मुस्लिम दूसरी पत्नी के लिए, जिसे उसने कथित तौर पर अपने कार्यालय में एक विवाहित कर्मचारी के रूप में गर्भवती कर दिया था, और दूसरा अपनी पहली हिंदू पत्नी के लिए, जिससे उसका एक बेटा था – जो अब एक अंबानी कंपनी में अपने पिता के सांसद के रूप में प्रभाव के कारण काम करता है।

यह जीवनशैली कैसे चलती है? राज्यसभा में अपने कार्यकाल के दौरान अर्जित संपत्तियों से, जिसका अब कथित तौर पर वह प्रति माह 2 लाख रुपये से अधिक किराया कमाता है। एक घर उनकी अविवाहित बड़ी बहन को भी दिया गया है, साथ ही 30,000 रुपये का मासिक वजीफा भी दिया गया है। इसके बावजूद, उनकी आय उनकी जीवनशैली के अनुपात में नहीं है।

यही वह जगह है जहाँ इवेंट फंडिंग, मीडिया अनुदान और विभिन्न राजनीतिक संगठनों और दूतावासों से मिलने वाले ‘मानदेय’ काम आते हैं। बाबरी मस्जिद से लेकर फिलिस्तीन तक, सीआईए द्वारा प्रायोजित साक्षात्कारों से लेकर मोदी और राजीव गांधी द्वारा भुगतान किए गए पीआर पैकेजों तक, इस आदमी ने व्यक्तिगत लाभ के लिए हर वैश्विक और राष्ट्रीय मुस्लिम मुद्दे का फायदा उठाया है।
विदेशी धन, विदेशी इरादे?

पत्रकारिता या सांस्कृतिक कूटनीति की आड़ में की गई विदेश यात्राओं को लेकर भी सवाल उठे हैं। सबसे खास बात यह है कि पिछले साल राहुल गांधी की लंदन यात्रा के दौरान उनकी मौजूदगी को आधिकारिक तौर पर कभी दर्ज नहीं किया गया। क्या वे किसी राजनीतिक लॉबी का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहे थे? क्या यह कांग्रेस के पुनरुद्धार के लिए एक निजी पीआर सौदा था? या यह हिंदुत्व और छद्म धर्मनिरपेक्ष राजनीतिक गुटों के बीच उनकी आदतन बाड़बंदी का हिस्सा था?

प्रचार का धंधा

मीडिया फॉर यूनिटी प्लेटफॉर्म खुद एक आकर्षक ब्रांड बन गया है। हर पुरस्कार समारोह में मीडिया घरानों, गैर सरकारी संगठनों और राजनयिक मिशनों से प्रायोजन, होटल सहयोग और निजी समर्थक आते हैं। ऐसा लगता है कि यह एकता और धर्मनिरपेक्षता का सम्मान करता है, लेकिन इसका वास्तविक कार्य अधिक कपटी है:

• सम्मानित व्यक्तियों के साथ दृश्यता और जुड़ाव के माध्यम से अपने अतीत को साफ करना
• पुरस्कारों के माध्यम से युवा और मध्यम स्तर के मीडिया पेशेवरों से वफादारी खरीदना
• हिंदुत्व दर्शकों के लिए एक ‘उदारवादी मुस्लिम’ चेहरा पेश करना
• भविष्य की राजनीतिक प्रासंगिकता के लिए सांस्कृतिक पूंजी जमा करना

वैधता के लिए विरासत का दोहन

वह अपने पिता मौलाना अब्दुल वहीद सिद्दीकी की विरासत का दोहन करना जारी रखता है – उर्दू साप्ताहिक नई दुनिया के सम्मानित संपादक, जो आपातकाल के दौरान दो बार जेल गए थे। उन्होंने झूठा दावा किया है कि वह खुद जेल गए थे, अपने परिवार द्वारा किए गए वास्तविक बलिदानों का अपहरण कर लिया।

सत्ता से उनकी निकटता – चाहे वह कांग्रेस में हो, आरएसएस में हो या समाजवादी पार्टी में – विचारधारा के माध्यम से नहीं, बल्कि उपयोगिता के माध्यम से बनी रहती है। वह हर राजनीतिक गुट को वह देते हैं जिसकी उन्हें ज़रूरत होती है:

उर्दू-भाषी जनता को समझना चाहिए: यह केवल व्यक्तिगत भ्रष्टाचार की कहानी नहीं है। यह एक चल रही सांस्कृतिक और वैचारिक चोरी है। राज्य के धन, विदेश यात्राओं, व्यापारिक संबंधों और झूठी विरासत का शोषण मुस्लिम प्रतिरोध को कमजोर करने और उर्दू को एक औपचारिक प्रतीक में बदलने की एक बड़ी रणनीति का हिस्सा है।

यह केवल मीडिया हेरफेर नहीं है। यह ऐतिहासिक चोरी है। मूल्यों, विरासत और भाषा की चोरी।

कुलदीप नैयर, खुशवंत सिंह और यहां तक कि स्वामी अग्निवेश जैसे नामों से पुरस्कारों के साथ – एक कट्टर हिंदुत्व प्रचारक – सिद्दीकी वैधता का निर्माण कर रहे हैं। फिर भी इनमें से कई नाम सांप्रदायिक लाइन के वैचारिक विरोधी थे, जिसका उन्होंने और उनके प्रकाशन ने समर्थन किया। मुस्लिम विरोधी बयानबाजी के लिए कुख्यात अरुण शौरी या भाजपा के दिग्गज सुब्रमण्यम स्वामी की बेटी सुहासिनी हैदर को ‘एकता’ की आड़ में पुरस्कार देना विडंबना नहीं है; यह विश्वासघात है।

प्रेरणा? विरासत को लूटना। शाहिद सिद्दीकी परिवार की पत्रकारिता विरासत पर किसी भी दावे को नष्ट करके निर्विवाद स्थान की तलाश कर रहे हैं – विशेष रूप से अपने मुस्लिम भाई से, जिनकी विचारधारा और ईमानदारी सिद्दीकी के अवसरवादी व्यक्तित्व से टकराती है।

वह यहीं नहीं रुके। सिद्दीकी ने तीन भतीजों को गैर-मुस्लिमों से शादी करने के लिए बहकाया गया, उनका विश्वास खत्म कर दिया गया, इस्लामी मूल्यों के ध्वजवाहक के रूप में उनके भविष्य से समझौता किया गया। परिवार की लड़कियों को उसी संस्कृति में धकेल दिया गया, जबकि शाहिद सिद्दीकी एक नव-नास्तिक, शराब-मेजबान जीवन शैली के निर्माता के रूप में खड़े थे, जहाँ अमेरिकी और रूसी राजदूतों सहित विदेशी राजनयिकों का भव्य स्वागत किया जाता था, जबकि मुस्लिम कारण राख हो गया था।

अपने दोहरे जीवन को बनाए रखने के लिए, शाहिद सिद्दीकी ने एक मुस्लिम कर्मचारी से शादी भी की – इस्लामी दृष्टिकोण को बनाए रखने के लिए एक सुनियोजित कदम। उनके दो बेटे विदेश में पढ़े, एक कानून में और दूसरा पत्रकारिता में, दोनों ने इस्लामी अभ्यास से दूर करियर बनाया। इसका वित्तपोषण कौन करता है? विदेश में इस तरह के भव्य शैक्षणिक संस्थान के लिए सालाना करोड़ों से अधिक का खर्च कौन उठाता है? निश्चित रूप से आय के घोषित स्रोत नहीं।

वर्ष 2024 भारतीय मुस्लिम इतिहास के सबसे काले अध्यायों में से एक है। मोदी सरकार ने विवादास्पद वक्फ संशोधन विधेयक पारित किया, जिसमें वक्फ बोर्डों की न्यायिक और वित्तीय स्वतंत्रता छीन ली गई, लेकिन उर्दू मीडिया के प्रमुख लोगों की चुप्पी बहुत ही गहरी थी। समुदाय की आवाज़ बनने का दावा करने वालों की ओर से एक भी संपादकीय या एक भी टीवी बाइट नहीं आई। और चुप्पी की इस पंक्ति में सबसे आगे थे उर्दू पत्रकारिता के स्वयंभू ध्वजवाहक शाहिद सिद्दीकी।
चौंकाने वाले विश्वासघात में, सिद्दीकी सिर्फ चुप नहीं रहे – उन्होंने 7 अक्टूबर, 2023 को हमास विद्रोह के लिए फिलिस्तीनियों पर दोष मढ़ दिया, बेतुके ढंग से ट्वीट किया कि यह ऑपरेशन इजरायल के इशारे पर किया गया था। यह न केवल तथ्यों का घोर विरूपण था, बल्कि वैश्विक मुस्लिम एकजुटता के चेहरे पर एक तमाचा था।

ऐसे बयान बेतरतीब नहीं हैं। वे एक ऐसे व्यक्ति के एजेंडे को उजागर करते हैं जिसने न केवल अपने परिवार की विरासत को बल्कि भारत में मुसलमानों के हित को भी धोखा दिया है। 1980 में, जब मुस्लिम और गैर-मुस्लिम सांसदों का एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल फिलिस्तीनी राजदूत को चेक सौंपने के लिए प्रधान मंत्री इंदिरा गांधी से मिलने में विफल रहा, तो यह सिद्दीकी नहीं थे जिन्होंने इसकी व्यवस्था की – यह उनके बड़े भाई अहमद मुस्तफा सिद्दीकी राही थे जिन्होंने उस नियुक्ति को सुरक्षित करने के लिए अपने कद का इस्तेमाल किया। मैं, तब एक छोटा लड़का था, व्यक्तिगत रूप से पीएम हाउस में इस कार्यक्रम का गवाह बना। नई दुनिया राहत कोष की ओर से फिलिस्तीनी राजदूत को 1 लाख रुपये का चेक सौंपा गया। चौंकाने वाली बात यह है कि वह चेक बाउंस हो गया।

पैसा कहां गया?

कुछ लोगों में से एक जो जानते हैं, वह हैं मोहम्मद अफ़ज़ल, जो पूर्व राज्यसभा सांसद हैं और छल-कपट के ज़रिए राजनीतिक अस्तित्व बनाए रखने की कला में सिद्दीकी के लंबे समय से सहयोगी हैं। अफ़ज़ल- जिन्होंने करीम होटल में एक मामूली वेटर के रूप में शुरुआत की थी- कांग्रेस के समर्थन की बदौलत न्यू फ्रेंड्स कॉलोनी में वीआईपी आवास तक पहुँचे। उन्हें वफ़ादारी बदलने के लिए जाना जाता है: वी.पी. सिंह से जुड़ना, 1999 में पत्रकारों के एक समूह के साथ अटल जी का आशीर्वाद लेना और अब सलमान खुर्शीद के साथ कांग्रेस को फिर से खड़ा करना। उनका सार्वजनिक जीवन रहस्यों से भरा हुआ है- जिसमें यह भी शामिल है कि बिना किसी आय के भी वे कैसे एक आलीशान जीवनशैली जीते हैं।

हमें यह नहीं भूलना चाहिए कि सिद्दीकी ने सत्ता में आने के लिए किस तरह से चालाकी की। अपने पिता मौलाना अब्दुल वहीद सिद्दीकी की मृत्यु के बाद, उन्होंने डी-10 निज़ामुद्दीन ईस्ट की विधवा मकान मालकिन को मजबूर किया- यह घर १९७० के दशक में शुरू में ५०० रुपये में किराए पर लिया गया था। जो दशकों से परिवार के निवास के रूप में काम करता था, उनके लिए सोने की खान बन गया। उन्होंने अपने भाई-बहनों बहनोई को बरगलाया और प्रीत विहार के एक प्लॉट पर अधिकार का दावा करने के लिए प्रचार का इस्तेमाल किया, जिसे बड़े भाइयों की आय से खरीदा गया था। बिक्री के लिए मजबूर करने के बाद, प्रत्येक भाई-बहन को ६ लाख रुपये दिए गए, और तीन बहनों के पैसे के साथ-साथ उनके अपने (~ 2४ लाख रुपये) को निज़ामुद्दीन की संपत्ति हासिल करने के लिए जमा किया गया।

यह सिर्फ शाहिद सिद्दीकी का कागज रहित अखबार या उनके मशहूर हस्तियों से भरे अवार्ड शो ही नहीं हैं, बल्कि यह गायब हुए करोड़ों रुपये, बाउंस हुए चेक, अपहृत संपत्तियां, खामोश विपक्ष और पत्रकारिता के नाम पर प्रचार इस आदमी को उर्दू प्रेस और भारतीय मुसलमानों के साथ विश्वासघात का एक बेहतरीन उदाहरण साबित करता है।

1. विरासत का अपहरण, सत्य का पुनर्लेखन

3. हिंदुत्व से जुड़े फ़र्जी धर्मनिरपेक्ष शेख

वित्तीय भ्रष्टाचार से भी ज़्यादा ख़तरनाक वैचारिक तोड़फोड़ है। वक्फ संशोधन विधेयक 2024, जो अब कानून बन चुका है, पर सिद्दीकी की लंबी चुप्पी बहुत कुछ बयां करती है। जबकि पूरे भारत में उर्दू मीडिया खामोश हो गया, शाहिद सिद्दीकी को एनसीपीयूएल से संरक्षण मिलता रहा, अपने बनाए ‘उर्दू मुद्दे’ का इस्तेमाल करके अपने लिए अनुदान और मंच हासिल करते रहे। हिंदुत्व से जुड़े संपादकों के लिए उनका खुला समर्थन, कॉरपोरेट घरानों से फंडिंग और कथित तौर पर यूके दूतावास से प्रोजेक्ट के लिए मिलने वाला पैसा कोई संयोग नहीं है, बल्कि एक परिष्कृत पेपरलेस प्रचार संरचना का हिस्सा है।
इससे भी ज़्यादा चौंकाने वाला उनका ट्वीट था जिसमें उन्होंने हमास पर 7 अक्टूबर को इजरायल के इशारे पर हमला करने का आरोप लगाया था – वैश्विक मुस्लिम सर्वसम्मति को धोखा देना और उनके दोहरे व्यवहार को उजागर करना।

4. फिलिस्तीन को बाउंस हुआ चेक

1980 में, मुस्लिम और गैर-मुस्लिम सांसदों के एक समूह ने श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी के ज़रिए फिलिस्तीनी राजदूत को ₹1 लाख का चेक देने की कोशिश की थी। शाहिद सिद्दीकी के बड़े भाई का इस्तेमाल नियुक्ति को सुरक्षित करने के लिए किया गया था। लेकिन वह चेक अंततः बाउंस हो गया। फिलिस्तीन के लिए निर्धारित नई दुनिया राहत कोष किसने प्राप्त किया, यह आज भी स्पष्ट नहीं है। कई लोगों का मानना है कि उनके करीबी सहयोगी और पीआर राजनीति में भागीदार, पूर्व सांसद से राजदूत बने मोहम्मद अफ़ज़ल के पास जवाब हो सकते हैं। अफ़ज़ल, जो करीम होटल के वेटर से राज्यसभा सदस्य तक पहुंचे, अब बिना किसी स्पष्ट आय स्रोत के न्यू फ्रेंड्स कॉलोनी में शानदार तरीके से रह रहे हैं।

5. आतंकवादियों का पैसा और संपत्ति खरीदना – पश्चिमी निजामुद्दीन में छिपा सौदा

उर्दू साप्ताहिक नई दुनिया का संपादकीय कार्यालय 2, निजामुद्दीन पश्चिमी बाजार, ND-13, मूल रूप से 1971 में प्रति माह किराए पर लिया गया था। 1985 में शाहिद सिद्दीकी द्वारा सिख आतंकवादी जे.एस. चौहान के साथ दो-भाग का प्रचार साक्षात्कार प्रकाशित करने के बाद, उन्हें कथित तौर पर 20 लाख रुपये मिले। इस पैसे से, उन्होंने पश्चिमी निजामुद्दीन में अपना वर्तमान घर 13 लाख रुपये में खरीदा। इस काले लेन-देन के परिणाम हुए – बाद में राजीव गांधी सरकार ने उन्हें टाडा के तहत जेल में डाल दिया।

विरासत का अपहरण

अपने वेतन पर दो दर्जन से अधिक संपादकों के नेटवर्क के साथ, सिद्दीकी कॉर्पोरेट पीआर बजट, छवि-निर्माताओं की एक समर्पित टीम और कथित तौर पर, यूके और अन्य वैचारिक सहयोगियों जैसे दूतावासों के माध्यम से वित्त पोषित एक कागज रहित साम्राज्य को नियंत्रित करता है। हिंदुत्व सत्ता संरचनाओं के साथ उनके संबंध तब स्पष्ट हो गए जब वे 2024 के वक्फ संशोधन विधेयक पर पूरी तरह से चुप रहे, और यहां तक कि उन्होंने इजरायल के खिलाफ 7 अक्टूबर के प्रतिरोध के लिए हमास को दोषी ठहराया, और इसे एक नाटक कहा – यह दृष्टिकोण वैश्विक ज़ायोनी प्रचार के साथ पूरी तरह से मेल खाता है।
अंबानी, भाजपा-समर्थक मीडिया दिग्गजों और राष्ट्रीय उर्दू भाषा संवर्धन परिषद (एनसीपीयूएल) जैसे मंचों से प्राप्त संरक्षण से युक्त उनके वित्तीय पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र से उन्हें कथा को नियंत्रित करने, नकली धर्मनिरपेक्ष पुरस्कारों का आयोजन करने और पत्रकारों, संपादकों और प्रभावशाली लोगों के एक समूह को प्रशंसा के रूप में प्रच्छन्न वफ़ादारी अंक वितरित करने के लिए पर्याप्त धन मिलता है – जिनमें से सभी उनसे या उनकी राजनीति पर सवाल उठाने से इनकार करते हैं।

रियल एस्टेट, ज़मीन हड़पना और चोरी का इतिहास

उन्होंने अपने परिवार के धोखे और आतंकवादियों के पैसे से अपनी रियल एस्टेट संपत्ति बनाई – 1990 के दशक में डी-10 निज़ामुद्दीन ईस्ट को बेचने के लिए मजबूर करने से, जिसे 1960 में शुरू में 500 रुपये प्रति माह किराए पर लिया या गया था, से लेकर 1985 में सिख अलगाववादी जे.एस. चौहान के साथ 2-भाग के प्रचार साक्षात्कार को प्रकाशित करने के बाद प्राप्त धन से 13 लाख रुपये में पश्चिम निज़ामुद्दीन में अपना वर्तमान घर खरीदने तक। ऐसे विवादास्पद व्यक्तियों के साथ उनकी निकटता के कारण राजीव गांधी सरकार ने उन्हें टाडा के तहत गिरफ़्तार भी किया। फिर भी, वे बिना किसी खरोंच के सार्वजनिक जीवन में वापस लौटे, 1990 के दशक में कांग्रेस के पैसे (बाबू खान सलमान वर्सी से 70 लाख रुपये) का इस्तेमाल करके एक प्रिंटिंग प्रेस स्थापित करने की आड़ में जो कभी नहीं बनी।

चुप रहने वाला माफिया

जब मुजफ्फरनगर में मुसलमानों का बलात्कार और कत्लेआम हो रहा था, तब सिद्दीकी नई दिल्ली के कॉन्स्टिट्यूशन क्लब में पुरस्कार समारोह आयोजित कर रहे थे, जहाँ भारत के उपराष्ट्रपति हिंदुत्व समर्थक पत्रकारों को पुरस्कार वितरित कर रहे थे। न तो कोई निंदा हुई, न ही बोलने की हिम्मत। बाद में, उन्होंने किसी भी नरसंहार से इनकार किया, इसे महज प्रचार कहा – ठीक वैसा ही जैसा आरएसएस और उसके सहयोगी दावा करते हैं।

स्वतंत्र उर्दू प्रेस का अंत

इंकलाब जैसे उर्दू दैनिक, जो अब 14 भारतीय शहरों से प्रकाशित होते हैं, दैनिक जागरण समूह द्वारा चलाए जाते हैं, जो हिंदुत्व विचारधारा का केंद्र है। सभी प्रमुख उर्दू टेलीविजन और प्रिंट मीडिया घराने – कश्मीर में कुछ को छोड़कर – या तो हिंदू पूंजीपतियों द्वारा चलाए जाते हैं या राजनीतिक संरक्षण पर निर्भर हैं। सच्चे मुस्लिम पत्रकारों की एक पीढ़ी को या तो खरीद लिया गया, चुप करा दिया गया या नष्ट कर दिया गया, और अब उनकी जगह एक कठपुतली वर्ग खड़ा है जिसे पीआर एजेंसियों, हिंदू दक्षिणपंथी वित्तपोषकों और शाहिद सिद्दीकी जैसे व्यक्तित्वों द्वारा नियंत्रित किया जाता है।

वह इसे “एकता” कहते हैं – लेकिन सच में, यह समर्पण है।

उपसंहार: उर्दू पत्रकारिता को किसने मारा?

उर्दू पत्रकारिता को सेंसरशिप ने नहीं मारा। इसे हिंदुत्व ने भी नहीं मारा। इसे अपने ही गद्दारों – शाहिद सिद्दीकी जैसे लोगों ने मारा – जिन्होंने पीड़ित होने को हथियार बनाया, विरासत से छेड़छाड़ की, और उसी विचारधारा के साधन बन गए जिसका विरोध करने का उन्होंने कभी दावा किया था।

उनका हथियार? झूठ।

उनका पुरस्कार? सत्ता।

उनकी विरासत? देशद्रोह।
